We Need Your Help To Raise one million pounds by 2015 to fund Brain Tumour Research

  • Brain Tumours; are known as 'THE FORGOTTON CANCER' because of the lack of funding and research. The public in general is unaware of the magnitude of this problem.
  • Brain Tumours; are very difficult to treat; they cannot be cured because their cause is, as yet, unknown. There are in excess of 120 different types and their location, (at the control centre for thought, emotion and physical functions), makes effective treatment very complicated.
  • Brain Tumours; kill more children, teenagers and adults, (under the age of forty), than any other known cancer and they are now the single biggest cancer killer in the under 16's.
  • Brain Tumours; are the second most common cause of neurological death.
  • Brain Tumours; statistics show that brain tumours in children are increasing annually at a rate of 5 - 10%.
  • Brain Tumours; are diagnosed in approximately 16,000 people per year and whether malignant OR benign, they are ALL life threatening.
  • Brain Tumours; provoke profound personality changes in patients, they cause permanent disabilities and the results are traumatic and devastating to the patient, family and friends.

BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH

  • Brain Tumour research is so under funded in the UK that in real terms it is over 12 years behind other cancers and research.
  • Brain Tumours; research attracts less than 1% of national cancer research funding and 5 year survival rates are absolutely shocking; 13 - 15% in comparison to 50 - 90% survival from some other cancers.
  • Brain Tumours; are currently treated by surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
